Solyana’s Story
“My name is Solyana Halefom. I am 11 years old and from Humera. I now reside in the Mekelle Health IDP Center. I am in 4th grade, and my favorite subject is Tigrinya. Back home, I used to play rope jumping with my friends. I dream of returning to Humera because I love it there.”
Art Statement
This artwork explores the delicate connection between peace and freedom, symbolized by the gentle movement of butterflies and children. Just as butterflies flutter effortlessly to places of their choice, when provided with peace, are free to explore and grow in environments that foster their well-being. The piece reflects the universal truth that peace is the essential foundation for growth, movement, and potential. For children, peace is not just the absence of conflict but the presence of opportunities to thrive. The work draws attention to the fact that, like butterflies, children are most vibrant and capable when surrounded by calm and safety. The message conveyed is simple yet profound: peace is the cornerstone of a hopeful, nurturing future for the next generation.
