Bethelhem’s Story

“My name is Bethelhem Ephreme, I have one sister, I currently reside in Mekele General clinic IDP center, my favorite foods are Fruit-Punch and Eggs. and my favorite game is football.”

Art Statement

This painting depicts a young girl from Humera, her bright smile radiating warmth and hope despite the distorted house behind her—a reminder of the invasion that forced her family to flee to Mekelle. Her expression embodies resilience and optimism, reflecting the strength of the human spirit in adversity.

In the background, a crumbling wall symbolizes destruction, while dark cracks represent lingering pain and loss. Yet, her hopeful presence shines through. Delicate butterflies flutter around her, symbolizing transformation and beauty born from struggle. Their vibrant colors convey joy and resilience, illustrating life’s ability to thrive in hardship. Artist Biography

Rahwa Ftwi was born and raised in Mekelle, Tigray. She is a dedicated student at Nicolas Robinson School, where she nurtures her passion for art and creativity. From an early age, art has played a significant role in her life, serving as a powerful medium for expressing emotions and telling stories. With a deep commitment to her craft, she continuously explores new ways to convey meaning through her work. Rahwa is honored to participate in this important project, using her artwork to share her vision, experiences, and the stories that inspire her.
