Adonay’s Story
“My name is Adonay Teklit, and I am from Humera. I am 11 years old and was 7 when I lived in Humera. I go to Atse Yohannes School, where I am in the 6th grade. My family has five members, six including me. My favorite color is blue because it is the color of the sky. I love fruits, especially oranges, apples, watermelon, and grapes. My favorite sport is football. When I grow up, I want to be a scientist.”

Dreams Beyond Displacement
This painting is part of the Face of Tigray project, a tribute to the resilience, dreams, and unbreakable spirit of children in displacement. The child’s radiant smile stands in stark contrast to the challenges of war and uncertainty, embodying hope that refuses to fade. The background, filled with symbols of science, art, and space exploration, represents the limitless potential within every child. It speaks to the dreams that persist despite hardship—the desire to learn, create, and reach beyond the boundaries of their current reality. The imagery of rockets and astronauts symbolizes ambition and the hope for a future where these children can thrive, unburdened by conflict.
Through this work, I aim to highlight not just the struggles of Tigray’s displaced children but their strength, intelligence, and aspirations. Art becomes their voice, a testament to their resilience, and a call to the world: to see them, to support them, and to believe in their dreams.
